We’re on countdown, again. One week today before our departure when we lose ourselves in wandering; resuming our interrupted trip around the world.

I've been practicing some wildlife photography, and decided I really need a better lens. My Tamron super zoom with a teleconverter is just not very crisp.
At this point these things are strewn everywhere in the house. We’ve been gathering and sifting through, choosing what stays and what we’ll take with us, and boxing and packing both. Except, of course, it is winter here and we are leaving the cold weather behind. The sweaters and such will have to stay with us until the last minute. Looking at the mess on the table: cords, hard drives, camera lenses, journals, hand sanitizer, and a flashlight, my passport; this time I am calm. I know we’ll get out the door and probably avoid the multiple 2:30 AM frenzies the nights before leaving.
Another difference, a very big one, is we are all exited. No hesitation or resistance from the girls, they are ready to go. Angst and hesitation is not the burden it was the first time leaving. They look forward to the exploration and adventure, and understand the leaving behind of the pets and friends. Now we go to a life with a rhythm we know, but to a place we do not. John and I are not so exhausted and frantic for this re-launch, and we have the time to think about where we are headed and to look forward with anticipation, rather than scramble in panic.
Seven days, and counting down.
