Canal Crossing at Rock Springs Guest Ranch
Our rides to the West of the ranch usually crossed the Tumalo Feed Canal. In earlier years, they also crossed another canal called the Columbia Southern. The water from that canal was re-routed several years ago and the canal abandoned. Many of the ponderosa pines which grew near the water subsequently died and fell over. The irrigation district has plans to pipe the Tumalo Feed Canal to conserve water. Sadly, this will be the end of water crossings like the one in the picture and the end of many lovely ponderosas, as well.
