Talachulitna River, "The Tal"

During the latter part of the silver salmon run, we made out way to the Tal for a day. The water level had drop such that we could not take the big sled much past the mouth at the Skwentna. The banks were lined with rotting salmon, dead after spawining, eyes removed by seagulls. The stink was terrific. We saw lots of bear tracks and scat, but no bear.
