I’m in Annapolis at the moment. The last two days have been spent touring DC, complete with a trip to the top of the Washington Monument, tours of the capital, library of congress, and supreme court, and smashing my camera on the floor of the subway.
Cleme and I had just rushing from the monuments to Oregon Congressman Greg Walden’s office, and were awaiting the next train at the Smithsonian stop of the metro. The power walk from the Washington Monument made me a tad sweaty. I brought John’s camera bag on this trip because I wanted to try it out. It’s a sling style that can be in back or front, a little like the sling I carried babies in, but with zippers. I took my burly camera from around my neck and set it in the main pocket of this sling bag. Now, I fully admit that this is a complete bonehead move, but the next thing I know, I’ve picked up the bag by the “handle,” flipping it sideways, because that’s how the thing is made to sit open to the top when you wear it, and my Nikon D90, the lens, and the lens hood have crashed into a line across the subway floor.
Needless to say, our next tours were sans photos. After sitting for 45 minutes in the senate gallery late in the day watching the absence of quorum paint drying, I left Cleme and headed to Ritz Cameras up by Farragut North. My camera does seem to be working, although the built in flash will not stay down, and I have the lens I really wanted but did not want to spend the money on yet.
Otherwise, the rest of the trip has been the typical DC gig; tourists reminding ourselves of those people in our past that have dreamed big dreams and given us a home that although may not be perfect but is stable and relatively free and prosperous, and feeling grateful to them.
Cheers and happy travels!
Eva
